Lane Discipline

Does it exist, does it fuck!

Taken while my driver tries to negotiate the roundabout on Metro Pondok Indah, buggered if I know how they manage it....

On another subject, my daughter saw her first dead bodies yesterday, not draped, still bleeding after a minibus and a bike collided. Due to rubberneckers, not people trying to assist, the school bus was virtually parked at the scene of the accident, allowing the children to witness the horror that is driving skills in Jakarta.

Indonesia, where the hard shoulder is the fast lane!

  1. I have only been witness to one such accident between two motorbikes, no helmuts, one guy didn't look healthy at all as a policeman comforted him on the ground. Not nice, hope your daughter it's overly effected.
Seem life is cheap in this country, with no one considering the risks.

  2. She's fine gj, although the sight was gruesome, it appears that watching TV and Movies has made the children a little "immunised" regarding what they see.

Agree with you on the cost of life, but then again, it seems to be the same throughout SE Asia.

  3. TV and gratuitous violence and lost of blood and guts has indeed immuned all of us a little to these things.

The only road rule you need to know for this part of the world is "anything goes"! This probably comes with the caveat of "if it didn't kill you then it was the right choice" and if it did kill you then it doesn't matter, you're dead!"
