Roads, Ceremonies and Fuckwits on Bikes

I arrived at the house in Pattaya to a water leak under the road outside my house. No other options but to dig the road up and resurface it. Being the usual lazy me, I waited until after Christmas to get this work done, so on Boxing Day we started.

Amazing thing about Thailand is that thing's you never thought about are instantly available, like the JCB that arrived to break the concrete and remove it...

It did not take long to have the old surface removed and get access to the leaking pipe buried beneath, however, the accompanying noise proved to be a problem...

Which manifested itself with a request from the neighbours asking if we could stop for an hour because they were having a memorial service for members of their family from Phuket who perished in the Tsunami on Boxing Day three years ago ...... 200 Baht to the road crew for lunch (and beer) and silence prevailed allowing the Monks and Gong Bangers to proceed with the service.

Then back to business, clearing the last of the shit out of the way. I expected a dump truck to haul away the rubble, but, in typical Thai style the debris was dumped on a building site a short distance away. Woke up the next morning to a brand new road....

Which had already been runied by motorbikes driving over the wet concrete despite barriers in place informing them the concrete was wet...

Aahhhh - Asia at its best......
